“receiving a Flat Parent Pillow when my dad got deployed was like having a piece of him with me all the time… it's hard to understand why he has to go away sometimes, but this made me feel better. Whenever I missed him, I could hug the toy tight and feel his love. I cried happy tears some nights thinking of him and listening to his recorded voice. My Dad is brave!”

Operation Hug-A-Hero supports students and their families across the Minot Public School District while their parent is deployed. The program helps alleviate the anxiety, tension, and pressures on the students' physical and emotional well-being so that they can concentrate better in and outside the classroom. Minot Air Force Base is currently experiencing a large deployment, putting this program in high demand.
Funds for the Operation Hug-A-Hero provide students with a deployed parent a life-size standing poster of mom/dad or a 17-inch pillow doll with a voice recorder that the parent can use to record a special message while they are deployed. Operation Hug-A-Hero allows a deployed parent to have a presence while away.
